Unrecorded Dutch training manual with dumbbell exercises, 1923
€ 250,00
Unrecorded Dutch training manual with dumbbell exercises, for both men and women. As the title-page notes, this is the third edition. This appears to be the only copy extant of any edition.
In the early 20th century, weightlifting in the Netherlands evolved from a general physical activity into a structured competitive sport. Dutch athletes participated in Olympic weightlifting events as early as the 1920 Summer Olympics, with figures like Kees Tijman, Willem van Nimwegen, and Tinus van Gelder representing the nation.
Though weightlifting remained a niche pursuit compared to cycling and football, the present brochure is testament to its growing role in Dutch sports culture.
