The catalogue, in German, French, and English, opens with a selection of "dress wigs" before unveiling a vast collection of theatre wigs, followed by some wool wigs and beards, a handy size guide (complete with blank pages for notes), and finally a comprehensive table of contents.
 
Georg Anton's factory, established in 1876, was Europe's premier manufacturer of theatre wigs. According to a 1902 article in Bühne und Welt, the company's address at that time was Kommadantstrasse 86, Berlin. Sometime between 1902 and 1911, the company relocated to Friedrichstrasse 19a, Berlin.
 
The wigs were crafted from both animal and human hair, with the latter sourced from Italy, France, Austria, Sweden, and China. The article notes that the hair of Swedish women, “mit ihrem herrlichen Reichtum goldigen Haares” ("with their splendid abundance of golden hair"), was particularly coveted. By 1902, the company boasted an impressive workforce of over 200 employees.
 
WorldCat lists only two known copies of this catalogue: one at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles and another at the Staatliche Museen in Berlin.
 
This particular copy bears evidence of use by a Dutch customer, with several annotations and measurements of named individuals. Additionally, it includes a loosely inserted order form from the Dutch wig factory Bemo Haarhuis, which was active in the 1960s.
